The history of creation of a special project

A unique project such as “Neem eens een kijkje in andermans keuken” (Have a look in someone else’s kitchen) doesn’t just appear out of the blue. There is a good story behind. The initiator Tessa Düren, daughter of an Indo-European father and a Dutch mother, explains:

“This project has developed as a result of a course I am currently following at Landmark Education. This educational institution offers personal development courses. You learn how to create a new future for yourself, and how to get closer to the people you care about. All participants are asked to organize a project that touches and inspires them, and which will make a difference for their surroundings.

My father comes from Indonesia, which naturally brings me close to several cultures. When my family gets together, long and delicious meals are always involved, stories are exchanged, and there is a lot of love in the air. Apart from that I’m simply interested in what people in other countries eat. I have done a lot of travelling, and in several countries I even followed cooking classes. Back then it inspired me enormously to be seated at the dinner table with people from different countries. You could really see people drawing together while eating, the bonds that were formed were so lovely to feel and see. Everybody eats, all over the world. So what could be more beautiful than getting to know other cultures by enjoying a meal together?”
